Ugh, Rust.

So, my bike is rusted like alot because it sits outside of my dorm and gets wet when it rains. There's rust everywhere! Especially the chain which angers me. Is there anything that I can spray on it to get rid of all the rust?

If it takes 45 minutes to walk to my destination, how long would it take to bike there?

Spynga?

  • Dec. 11th, 2009 at 3:50 AM
Have any of you tried Spynga? It's supposed to be a fusion of yoga and spinning.

This place is opening soon right near my workplace, and it really looks interesting; http://www.buddhafulspin.com/blog.html

I love cycling, and very much miss being able to bike back and forth to work - right now, because of the distance and the weather, it's just not feasible. As a result, I feel like a lump in many ways. I've never done spinning before, so I don't know how comparable it is. I've also never done yoga, but always wanted to try it. I'm curious to hear others' experiences before I try it out myself.

Multi-day event training

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 2:27 PM
I've gone insane and decided that I have it in me to do the AIDS/Lifecycle ride this year. I suppose it's not wholly outside my realm of ability, as I have no problem doing metric centuries and I did a century in Nov 2008 without any real training. The time allowed to finish each day seems pretty generous, so I feel good about the way things are paced.

My commute gives me 15 miles of riding 5 days a week now. I'm hoping to sacrifice my lunch hours to make it 30. I'm also going to spend one weekend day riding so that I can get used to having less rest time, hopefully reaching a point where my rest day is something closer to active recovery. I also am going to see about getting involved in San Jose Bike Party more so I get more group riding time. I'm sure some of my solo riding will be dedicated to climbing.

I'd love people's input on how to train for this, though. I think just raising my weekly totals, losing some weight, getting used to more days on, and training a little for climbing might be enough. I don't need to be the first person across the line...I just want to finish.

Thoughts?

Update on http://community.livejournal.com/bikes/384127 which I posted following the death of a fellow cyclist after being hit by a drunk driver:

The driver was scheduled to go to court this morning on charges of aggravated vehicular manslaughter. I'm not sure why, but the case was continued.

Incidentally, a local tv news anchor was a passenger in the vehicle. His station barely reported on the accident, and never mentioned his connection to my knowledge. To their credit, he is no longer with the station.

howdy y'all, the end of the year is coming up and some people enjoy to take inventory of their past year/life in the saddle. here's a list that i found a while ago from a friend, with some things added. it's not organized, and it could really use some additions. let's expand on it!
